KS Mark Certification is a national certification system that enables companies that can consistently and stably produce products at the level of Korean Industrial Standards (KS) or higher to undergo rigorous audits and be labeled with the KS Mark. It promotes simplicity and transparency in transactions and processes through the promotion of standardized products and technologies. The system not only ensures the rights and interests of consumers and public safety, but also contributes to the development of the national economy by saving costs and time by eliminating the need for quality confirmation and other procedures that are required for the purchase of products by the state, corporations, and public organizations. When the state, local governments, public agencies, and public organizations make purchases or transfer labor, or when they name products for bidding on state contracts, they can give priority to products that have received the KS mark.
However, the KS mark certification is not obtained just by having the KS standard. KS Mark certification is granted only to product varieties that are designated by the Korea National Institute of Technology and Standards (KNITS) as necessary for the popularization and promotion of national standards. As of May 2008, there are 868 types of products designated with the KS Mark, and a total of 6,347 factories have obtained 9,866 KS Mark certifications and are producing KS Mark products.
The factory audit standards used in the KS Mark certification process are called "KS Certification Audit Standards". The audit standard specifies in detail the specific requirements for each product. Therefore, companies can effectively promote their business by purchasing the audit standards, fully understanding the requirements of the audit standards, and preparing in accordance with the contents of the audit standards.
The purpose of KS certification is to consolidate the country's industrial base, improve the quality and productivity of pan-industrial products, and promote the standardization and fairness of economic transactions to enhance competitiveness and protect the rights and interests of consumers.
Therefore, companies need to understand the changes in the business environment and practice quality management, establish a standard system, improve competitiveness through on-site improvement, and improve customer satisfaction by obtaining KS certification, thereby realizing management upgrades.
